FAQ
getting started: search events
When you open the website, the map will zoom in to display your location (marked with the crosshair) and the closest
event in the database. If it cannot use your location, it will zoom in around existing events.
You can then:
- adjust the map display
- change the time filter for events: the start date and time, and the interval. So if you select next Friday 0:00
as start date and 3 d (3 days) for the interval, you'll be shown events on the following weekend.
- reset your settings with the sponge π§½
You can also filter events by category:
- music events π΅
- other performances, demonstrations or entertainments π€ΉββοΈ
- stuff to buy (food, drink, fleamarket...) π
- information, participation, official stuff π’
If these buttons light up (light green), you need to press them again to confirm your selection. Also, if the map display
does not change, press the category button again to update the map display.
For every category, there are lots of sub-categories to filter events with. There, you can also choose to NOT have something
displayed; options for the buttons are "doesn't matter" (grey), "must have" (green) and "must not have" (red).
You can also search for events by typing the name of someone's account into the search input π΅οΈββοΈ. Disclaimer: This does not
work as it's supposed to yet, depending on the browser.
getting started: create an account
You can create an account by selecting the menu button π and then "Register".
There, you will be asked for:
- an Account ID - the name of your act, e.g. "Frituur Miranda".
- a country - not necessarily your nationality. Just pick a favourite (but you should remember it).
- a description of the account, what you do; you can put a link to your website here etc. This will be displayed
together with your events.
- categories for your account, which will be default categories for your events
- an email (mind UPPER/lower case)
- a password - 2 times
- accept terms and conditions and functional cookies
After that, business as usual: you'll get an email (in your spam folder) asking to confirm your registration, and that's it.
getting started: place your events
To put your events on the map, create an account first.
Once you have created an account, you can click on the "create" button at the top of the page.
The centre of your map display can now be used to set the location of your event. When you move and zoom the map, the
coordinates on the button will change. Once you press that button, the coordinates shown - and the position of the
crosshair on the map - are stored as the location of your event.
Next you need to provide beginning and end of your event. It must be in the future, and at least 1 min. long, and
shorter than 1 day.
After that, you can change the categories for the event. Default categories are those for your account. One of the emoji
categories will be used to mark your event on the map. If you have chosen several categories, a random one, or the most
popular will be used.
Finally, you can describe the event.
After saving the event, you can either continue and enter more events, or close the popup.
You can also manage your events selecting "Edit events" in the main menu. That includes deleting and editing events (same
procedure as creating events). You can also copy events one day or one week into the future. So if you do regular events,
for example you operate a market stall or you offer open yoga classes in the park, the easiest way is as follows:
Create the event next time when your event starts, where your event starts: That will set the location and the starting time.
Then fill in some basic other information. You can refine that later. And then you just copy the event days and weeks
into the future.
I can't see the event description
That's because either the person who posted an event, or the person looking at it, should have upgraded
to a maker account. You can upgrade for free for some time.
Also, you can get several accounts, and you can type almost everything into the account name. So if that's what
describes your event, just name it "Jar of Honey 6β¬ IN CASH PLEASE".
I can't register
Did you select a country? I know it's a bit odd, but there might be more than one "Frituur Miranda" ...
why?
There's so much live entertainment round where i live, and, who knows, in your neighbourhood? But often enough,
just a few people to enjoy it. What a waste! On the other hand, there might be excellent foodtrucks,
market stalls selling homemade stuff, your favourite local band, a neighbourhood fleamarket, people meeting
for sports or organising themselves to plant trees or whatever, just around the corner: and you missed it,
because you did not study the 56 newsletters in your inbox carefully. It would be nice if you could look up these
small events somewhere, wouldn't it? And look for what's on somewhere, at a given time, without having to browse
categories first? Why would I know what i want to do anyway?
And the bigger ones, too... if you get around a bit, you might find you're spending hours browsing all the live
venues' websites and event listings for something interesting around where you'll happen to be, say, next
wednesday evening.
the math
At the time of writing, hosting is 7,99 β¬ / month; the map tiling service is 20 US$ / month, and
there's a few months worth of work in this. There's certainly room for improvement (more work) here. The CVO class
was 325 β¬. A legal audit will be a bit over 1000 β¬. Not the world, but ... You're welcome. I'll be happy to
run this as a hobby if you find it useful, as long as i can afford it.
